The Playboy founder -- who has famously had multiple women live with him in the Playboy mansion at once, including exes Kendra Wilkinson, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt -- insists love is the most important thing in his life.
He said: "I'm a romantic, and I always have been."
But Hugh admits his version of romantic love is not always limited to just one person.
The 84-year-old media mogul -- who is the subject of new documentary Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel -- told CNN: "Well, romantic love is sometimes promiscuous, sometimes not."
Hugh believes his fixation with love and relationships comes from his "repressed" childhood.
He explained: "I was raised in a home in which there was not a lot of hugging and kissing. My folks were very repressed. They were raised farm people from Nebraska. They didn't get a lot of hugs and kissing, and my brother and I were raised in that kind of home. I think that in a very real way I have filled that hole from childhood with love."
At present, Hugh is only dating one woman, 24-year-old blond beauty Crystal Harris.
